For anyone who's ever carried backup flats in her bag.

Every New York girl knows the math. A walk to brunch, a detour through SoHo, a last-minute dinner across town, and by 3 p.m. your cute shoes have officially turned on you. So when a shoe comes along that's genuinely comfortable and actually chic, word travels fast. This fall, that shoe is the Rothy's clog.
It helps that clogs are having a real moment. They came back on the spring 2026 runways at Bottega Veneta, Simone Rocha, and Versace, Chloé kept them going for fall, and Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Halle Berry have all been spotted in a pair this year. But in a city where you walk everywhere, the version New York girls actually reach for is flat, slip-on, and easy to wear from morning to night.
Meet the Casual Clog, Rothy's take on fall's favorite silhouette: a rounded, slip-on shape made with the brand's signature thread spun from recycled plastic bottles, in warm, earthy shades like Portobello and Clove, plus a few prints that are quickly becoming neutrals. We asked 9 NYC creatives to put a pair to the test and tell us how they styled it. The verdict? Comfy enough for 20,000 steps, cute enough for dinner. Ahead, see how they're wearing fall's most walkable shoe.
Fashion moves in the street before it moves online, and we're there to document it. Our team has boots on the ground in the coolest places around the world, tracking what people are actually wearing. Real people, real outfits. That's what makes OOTD.com the go-to source for outfit inspiration.
She describes her style as "elegant classy and versatile," built on "staple pieces that I can wear over and over" rather than fast fashion. A lot of that comes from her mom, who "has always had the best style (2000's icon baddie)." For the shoot, she wore "a flannel I stole from my boyfriend" knotted over relaxed white Edikted jeans, her uniform for "a perfect lazy sunny Saturday." Her review of the clogs is short and all caps: "THE SHOES ARE SO. COMFY." And she has a hot take for anyone eyeing the prints: "I honestly think cheetah is a neutral at this point." We agree.
Proof that you don't need much to look this good. A white long-sleeve tee, a chocolate sweater tossed over the shoulders, and dark wide-leg jeans that pool right over a pair of taupe clogs. An oversized brown suede tote, a slick bun, and tiny black sunglasses do the rest. Three colors, zero fuss.
If you're looking for a white tee and jeans, Katie is not your girl. "You won't catch me in a white tee and jeans," she says. Her style is "preppy eclectic. Like, if NYC met Charleston with a hint of Miami," and here she went head-to-toe Parker Zinn, one of her favorite NYC designers (and mine!), in the Rowan tee and matching cable-knit pants. Keeping it all cream was very intentional: "I wanted the shoes to be the star of the show." That Rodeo-cow print is impossible to miss, and the clogs held up to a real test: "I ended up walking 20,000 steps in them with no problem the first day I wore them."
Deanna's formula is simple: keep the basics easy and let the accessories do the talking. A Zara coat, an Everlane cardigan, Levi's, and dark brown clogs set up a cozy base. "I wanted to lean into fall colors, so I went with tonal browns and neutrals, then added the burgundy bag," she says. That bag, from a leather shop in Italy, is the pop of color, and Heaven Mayhem earrings finish it off. She counts Kendall Jenner as one of her style references. Kendall would approve.
What do Ralph Lauren, Elsa Peretti, and '90s Brad Pitt have in common? They're all on Rish's mood board. "I'd call my style a version of sporty tailoring! I love to lean into color & print depending on the season," she says, and this look nails it: an Athleta jacket, a Madewell plaid shirt tied at the waist, cuffed white Mango jeans, and a Kate Spade crescent bag. Every piece was chosen around the shoes. "Specifically for this outfit, I wanted to lean into fall prints & colors that complemented the Portobello color way. To me, the outfit feels like a sunny fall afternoon!" Her favorite thing about the clogs is simple: "The comfort!!! For city girls, comfort always comes first because functionality is key. They can be dressed up & they can be dressed down."
"My style is a reflection of the places I've lived and traveled," Emma says. Growing up in Connecticut and going to school in Vermont left her with "a bit of that classic New England preppiness," while living in London and traveling through Europe gave her "an appreciation for that effortless sense of refinement you see in European street style." Here, that's a Zara suede-effect bomber, white Zara jeans, an Éterne tank, and an American Vintage jumper in Twilight thrown over her shoulders, with her clogs in Dove. "I like looking put together without feeling overly styled," she says. Her favorite part? "They almost immediately mold to my feet." No breaking in required.
For Julia, the city is the mood board. She calls New York "the perfect playground for discovering new ideas, silhouettes, and ways to style everyday essentials," and her look is a love letter to off-duty dressing: low-rise baggy jeans from PacSun, a slouchy white Skims top, and an oversized leather jacket from Zara. The clogs pass her one real test: "I love a shoe that feels as good as it looks."
It was love at first sight for Marisa. "I loved the print when I first saw them and figured a cream look would be lush and fab with it!" she says. So she went all in: a plush Peppermayo coat, a sheer Free People top, vintage 7 jeans from her aunt, vintage Gucci and Givenchy jewelry, and oversized frames from Wisdom Eyewear. It's her first pair of Rothy's, and probably not her last: "they are the comfiest shoes I've put on my feet in a while!"
We saved the most romantic for last. "I attempt to have an old school and timeless look, with more of a focus on any beautiful shapes, textures, and colors I can find," Hannah says. "I love a defined waist, a well-cut trouser, and pieces that feel elegant enough to wear for years." That eye comes from the women in her family: "My great-grandmother had excellent taste, and my sister, mother, and grandmother have always dressed so elegantly. Each time I leave the house, I try to capture and replicate a little of that." Here, she wears a burnt sienna velvet jacket with chocolate-brown trim, brown Amanda Uprichard trousers, and a white ribbed top, finished with a colorful stone necklace and gold jewelry passed down from her grandmother, including a charm bracelet, "one from the 50s that I love to wear to attempt to dress anything up." The Portobello clogs balance out all that tailoring. "The jacket has quite a defined shape, so the clogs bring an ease to it that I really like," she says. "The Portobello shade also works beautifully with the warm velvet and chocolate-brown trousers."
If these nine looks proved anything, it's that you don't have to choose between the cute shoe and the comfortable one anymore. Whether it's a 20,000-step day, a quick coffee run, or dinner downtown, the clog keeps up. Your 3 p.m. self will thank you.
