From '90s minimalism to royal purple, 11 New York women style the season's biggest trends for the moments that fill their week.

New York doesn't always leave room for an outfit change. You leave the apartment at 8 a.m., and whatever you're wearing is what you'll be wearing at the bar at 11. The outfit has to work for all of it: the work meeting, girls' dinner, the event your co-worker added to your calendar at 4 p.m.
So for this one, we teamed up with the Shop app and 11 of my favorite New York dressers and gave them one brief: style fall's biggest trends for a real day in your life. '90s minimalism, fall layering, office dressing, statement coats and a whole lot of royal purple. Here's what I took notes on:
Fashion moves in the street before it moves online, and we're there to document it. Our team has boots on the ground in the coolest places around the world, tracking what people are actually wearing. Real people, real outfits. That's what makes OOTD.com the go-to source for outfit inspiration.
This was shot the week of Halloween (hence the cobwebs behind her), and I keep coming back to it. A sheer Meshki Maxi Skirt is usually a going-out skirt, but Sophie wears hers with a cropped Meshki jacket and an Everlane tee, and it works just as well for a day at a museum.
Royal purple and croc bags are two of my favorite trends this season, and Ava found a way to wear both. Her Staud bag does the talking against an all-ivory base (a satin top and sheer Everlane skirt), with a leather jacket thrown over her shoulders. Judging by the shopping bag, the Saturday is going well.
If I had a big pitch tomorrow, I’d wear exactly what Abby did. A cropped Guizio black top, a suede Kookai skirt that hits just below the knee, and the pointiest Tony Bianco pumps I’ve seen all season.
Madeline’s burgundy Rumored jacket has big patch pockets and the softest-looking suede I’ve seen this fall. She kept everything else simple (jeans, brown boots, a little Freja New York bag), which is exactly what it needed.
The lace hem peeking out of Maddy’s Dôen skirt is such a good detail. Add a white tee, a camel Everlane blazer and slouchy suede boots, and it’s made for a wine night at Sauced.
Nicole’s oversized Alex Mill sweater is the coziest pop of color, and with satin trousers and cap-toe flats, it can be worn to the office, to lunch with the girls, or just to pick up some new magazines for your coffee table.
A little movement does a lot for a simple look. Marina layered a cream Everlane crewneck over a Diish fringe top so it only shows from the hem down, then added white The Frankie Shop trousers and tall black boots.
Sierra tied a cable-knit Frankies Bikinis sweater over her shoulders, which is the ultimate fall styling touch. Underneath: a rust Dôen shirtdress, a brown fringe bag and Frye boots, the pair you’ll wear into the ground by summer.
Black turtleneck, white skirt, black boots. It sounds plain on paper, but Callie’s Flore Flore turtleneck tucked into a Kookai skirt with leather Schutz boots is pure Carolyn Bessette, ’90s minimalism made for a day at the office. Swap the work tote for her fringe bag, and she’s ready for drinks with the girls.
Diana’s dressed for a slow morning in the West Village and a new café to try: a Meshki striped sweater, Still Here denim and every New Yorker’s closet essential, a long coat from Because of Alice.
If you’re wearing one jacket to Thursday Gallery Nights, make it this one. Micaela paired her Ostrich Yellow the Label jacket with a JW Pei bag and a brown leather skirt, and she’s the most interesting thing in the room. The textures play so well together that everything went straight into my cart.
By the time I finished this story, every one of my favorite occasion looks had come from one place: Shop. Cozy fall sweaters, leather midi skirts, royal purple everything, and an ostrich jacket that I already added to my Christmas list. Now you have the street style to show you how to wear them.
