9 Major Street Style Trends We Spotted at Copenhagen Fashion Week

Fringe has been building momentum since last fall, but Copenhagen’s it-girls proved it’s far from running out of ways to be styled. Rather than leaning into Western tropes, attendees integrated tactile tassel details into layered, summer-ready silhouettes.

Victoria leaned into texture-clashing by layering a delicate sheer lace wrap over dark denim, finishing the look with a sweeping brown suede fringe clutch, oversized sunnies, and playful pops of cherry red. Meanwhile, Lauren elevated a white ribbed tank and slouchy light-wash denim with high-impact accents: a lime-green fringe scarf slung low across her hips, an olive newsboy cap, retro red frames, and apple-green strappy heels wrapped tightly around her jeans hem.

Lace will always have a special place in my heart, and Copenhagen is the ultimate backdrop to show it off. Whether dressed up for late-afternoon shows or styled casually for an overpriced (but worth every bite) matcha and breakfast plate at Atelier September, lace was everywhere.

Julie styled a floor-sweeping white lace tie-front cardigan worn open over tailored black trousers and sharp leather boots. Elle stole our hearts in this two-piece white lace skirt set, proudly showing off her baby bump adorned with a sunburst of colorful crystal body gems. Styled with a red paisley bandana headband, lilac visor frames, and hot-pink slingback flats with a matching feathery mini bag, it was a celebration of whimsical accessories. 

For a city where biking is the main form of transportation, Danish girls do not play about their shoe choices. While ballet flats are not a surprise trend in any major city anymore, the girls were styling them in ways I think we can all appreciate. As much as I force myself to walk in heels—it's not a pretty sight, please nobody ever put me on a runway—ballet flats save me from tripping over cobblestones while still feeling fashion-week ready. I slipped mine on for a day of biking from Ecco's "Walk Between Worlds" breakfast to RIXO's upcoming collection preview at Hotel Belle Grande (which I am beyond in love with!).

Lara and Maria both paired ballet flats with army-green bottoms. Lara opted for a puffy-sleeved maroon top and dark netted buckle flats, while Maria Cloe styled a red-and-white striped Mandarin-collar top with metallic cap-toe Chanel flats. Sabina and Katrine both went for a classic black ballet flat, tying together their sleek, city-chic looks.

Danish street style is synonymous with playing with bold colors, and this season, rich blues stole the spotlight. Rather than adhering to monochromatic palettes, editors and stylists used bold turquoise and royal blue as the focal point of their look. 

Ana wore a unique charcoal peplum denim set and added a bright teal mini purse. Rita paired a vibrant teal fringe midi skirt with a red-and-yellow striped long-sleeve for the ultimate Danish girl moment. Wilma paired a cheetah-print mini dress over a bold royal blue long-sleeve shirt, adding lace-up black boots and a classic Balenciaga City bag to elevate the street style moment. 

Bicycle winds and international voltage differences (because my Dyson Airwrap can’t function overseas) demand clever hair solutions—and Copenhagen’s answer this season was the crochet hat. Born from a collective urge to accessorize when summer heat limits our clothing layers, open-knit caps and crochet beanies has Copenhagen in a chokehold.

Maria topped off her delicate white eyelet top and blue-striped maxi skirt with a baby-blue crochet beanie, complete with navy flip-flops and a slung denim jacket. I opted for a cream-colored crochet cap paired with a sweeping, backless black halter dress from RIXO’s upcoming collection. My friend Kayla, a creative editor who also flew in from New York, leaned into quintessential Scandi eclectic energy, styling her dusty-pink crochet hat with a patchworked Mila Sullivan mini dress, braided tails, and classic black ballet flats for a day of bopping around to shows and jotting down style notes in her journal. 

As Scandinavian style leans further into a playful "more-is-more" philosophy, sparkly sequin pieces are taking center stage. While I usually save my sequin Handover skirt for a night out dancing, Scandi girls made a convincing case that light-catching embellishments belong out in the afternoon sun, echoing the siren-like, shimmering beauty moments seen on the Collina Strada runway.

Victoria turned heads in an iridescent pink sequined asymmetric skirt that felt like a maximalist mermaid dream, balanced by a plunging coral top and metallic kitten heels. Taking a sporty-glam route, Olivia elevated a pair of casual striped boxer shorts with a sheer silver sequin top, layering a breezy sheer pink long cardigan over top and accessorizing with a cherry-print Louis Vuitton Speedy and classic thong sandals.

From bold gingham to crisp pinstripes, patterned button-downs dominated the Copenhagen streets this season.

Isa and Fie paired oversized plaid shirts loosely unbuttoned over black lace bralettes with wide-leg light-wash denim—the perfect uniform for spending an afternoon thrifting or sipping natural wine by the water at La Banchina. Julia gave the trend a romantic twist, opting for an oversized pinstripe button-down detailed with delicate white floral lace appliqués. Layered over a textured black fringe maxi skirt and finished with thong sandals and a woven raffia tote, a look meant for sitting front-row at the Marimekko show. 

If you’re already a dedicated fashion girl like me, chances are you’ve been wearing flip-flops with jeans long before it was considered stylish. While they are taking over in every major city right now, nowhere was the trend more prevalent than in Copenhagen. Havaiana’s found its target audience here, even debuting their long-awaited kitten-heel flip-flops right where it made the most sense.

The "wrong shoe theory" was alive and well, proving that casual flip-flops paired with slouchy denim creates that off-duty model look we all crave. Copy Dezi, who paired charcoal wide-leg jeans with a deconstructed white bow-tie shirt and simple black thong sandals. Chili opted for classic light-wash jeans, a white cropped tank, a neon yellow belt, and an oversized olive blazer, while Frederikke showed off the Nordic uniform by layering a flowing beige trench over loose denim and black flip-flops. Meanwhile, Olivia matched with her boyfriend—both stepping out in the comfiest shoes you can possibly wear for a week of show-hopping. 

Unexpected pairings were everywhere in the Danish capital, and as I wandered starstruck through the crowds, baggy shorts with sleek heels was a combination that couldn't be ignored. Taking a casual streetwear staple and contrasting it with a sharp heel means you're instantly ready to strut your way straight into any after-party.

Carlotta mixed another staple of the summer—camo cargo shorts—with a fitted magenta suede jacket and sharp white woven heels. Emma wore baggy army-green capris with a chartreuse long-sleeve top, finishing the look with black strappy heels featuring a gold beaded element.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is a reminder to let your inner maximalist run free—to embrace the playful spirit of your 10-year-old self who wanted to mix every color, pattern, and sparkle all at once. The street style felt unapologetic, unafraid, and deeply personal: a city of women dressing purely for themselves (and perhaps a few street style photographers along the way).

Between warm cardamom buns, scenic bike rides along the canals, and endless people-watching at La Cabra, Copenhagen proved once again why it sets the tempo for global style. As the official kickoff to the SS27 season, the Danish capital has set the bar impossibly high—and I, for one, am bringing every bit of that magic back home to New York.
